Bob Dyson #12, was born in Calgary Alberta on February 5, 1932 and passed away on January 7, 2024. He was an autobody man by trade; his previous careers being a caboose man and ironworker. Bob was very proud of his restored 1930 Model A Ford pick up truck which he and his wife took to many car shows.
Growing up he played baseball, school yard soccer, and eventually teenage football.
His officiating career started when he was 35 years old and looking to get involved in football and asked how he could help. Someone right then and there told him what to do, and so he donned the striped jersey and began to officiate in the GSL and the Lower Mainland Football league originally in West Vancouver.
Bob joined the BCFOA in 1967. His first few years he officiated only Canadian rules but then also joined the American high school ranks.
For multiple years Bob officiated BC High School Championships as well as BC Junior Football Championships. In the 1970s he also worked some collegiate football. Bob was the Supervisor of CIS Officials (UBC and SFU) as well as for BCFC games. He took enormous pride in working many years in the BCFOA with Larry Rohan evaluating officials all over the province.
Bob was a CFL Timer working BC Lions games for several years.
Bob knew his rules and even if he was wrong nobody, and we mean nobody, would dare tell him he was wrong unless it was the North Delta Huskies coach.
A member for 45 years, Bob preached hard work, attention to detail, a dedication to learning/improving and instilled a sense of pride in individual and crew performance. He loved to mentor new officials.
Bob retired from officiating in 2012 at the age of 80, and his #12 jersey number was officially retired.
