Greg Barnes

A former Edmonton Wildcats Junior player Greg Barnes #45, was employed as a CBC vice-president and after moving to BC worked as the Human Resources Director for West Vancouver.  Greg Barnes joined the BCFOA in 1991, after being encouraged to do so by the Centennial football coach and Bill Diett. In the following 27 years he officiated a championship game each season including 11 varsity finals of which 3 were as the Referee and 6 were AAA finals.  He also worked games for the North Shore GSL league and spent two years as a football umpire in the semi-pro league.

In total, he worked over 1200 games.

For 15 years he was a CFL sideline official including 11 years as the CFL Communications Coordinator responsible for assigning all Vancouver CFL sideline officials.  He worked 3 Grey Cups and retired after the 2014 Grey Cup.

He was also the allocator for the 2009 World Police Fire Games football division.

Greg served as President of the BCFOA from 2005 – 2007 and was responsible for bringing all provincial football officials under one BCFOA umbrella.

After retiring from active duty, Greg served on many play-off committees and observed and mentored many of the BCFOA’s new and junior members.
